Supporting medical education and innovation.

The Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) was founded in 1971 as an educational, scientific, and charitable non-profit corporation.

Fourteen American Indian and Alaska Native physicians established AAIP to provide healthcare support and services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. AAIP represents the values and interests of more than 400 Native American physicians in the United States. At the time of its founding in 1971, AAIP’s vision was, and remains, to improve the health of American Indian and Alaska Natives (AI/AN).

AAIP’s mission: “to pursue excellence in Native American health care by promoting education in the medical disciplines, honoring traditional healing principles and restoring the balance of mind, body, and spirit”.

Our members benefit from professional development and national networking opportunities. Many life-long professional relationships and friendships are formed among members whose shared values and common experiences in medicine unite them. Since 1971, AAIP has provided many opportunities and services to AI/AN students and its membership.

Membership in AAIP

AAIP serves as a platform for Native American medical students, residents, and fellows. We work closely with the Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS). Learn about mentorship opportunities and ways to get involved.
